Recycle your old computers safely

WESTPORT — Do you have old computers collecting dust in the attic because you are concerned about your personal information on the,hard drive? How many

boxes of documents are you storing in your garage because you are worried about identity theft? On Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Earthplace invites you to

bring your old computers, monitors and confidential documents to our “Recycling Day to Guard Against Identity Theft.” Representatives and technicians from

two local companies will be on hand to recycle and destroy your materials. Your old computers will be dismantled and recycled by ComputerFox, a computer

repair chain. Secure Eco Shred will also be onsite to shred your documents into tiny, unrecognizable bits. You’ll receive a certificate of destruction that guarantees

your material has been completely destroyed and will be recycled. Recycling your computer and shredding important documents are great ways to keep your identity and

personal information intact while also doing a great service for our environment. For more information about our “Recycling Day to Guard Against Identity Theft,”

Recycling At Earthplace: A Great Success   Staff Reports Article Launched: 01/31/2007 04:12:24 PM ES Earthplace would like to thank the hundreds of friends and neighbors who brought their computers and documents to our "Prevent Identity Theft and Recycle Day." Together we recycled 5,500 pounds of paper and tens of thousands of pounds of computer equipment. These items will be properly reused and recycled instead of filling a landfill or going up in smoke. We would also like to thank ComputerFox and Secure EcoShred for partnering with us in this much needed venture. Without these two companies we would never have been able to have such a successful event. We applaud them for their dedication to the environment. I would also like to thank all volunteers, board members and Earthplace staff who used their muscles and backs to move all this material. A dedicated group of individuals working together can make a great and tremendous impact. Together we were able to have a successful recycling drive, but much more needs to be done.
