Workshop Challenge Courtesy of "MoveOn.org"

Dear American Patriot:

Home Depot is spending gobs of money advertising itself as pro-environment.1 But it advertises on Fox, which consistently deceives the public about the existence of global warming.2 We've teamed up with the Sierra Club and others, asking Home Depot to pull their ads from Fox.

Our efforts are working. Several days ago, Home Depot executives personally responded to emails from activists—and announced they would not advertise on Bill O'Reilly.3 But that's not enough. Even supposed "news" anchors on Fox deceive the public about global warming—like business anchor Neil Cavuto, who says a cold day in winter is "proof that all this hype over global warming could be just that, hype."4

Can you email Home Depot today? Let's politely let them know that they can't run a PR campaign saying they are pro-environment while also subsidizing Fox's misinformation on global warming?

It would be good to indicate your home town in the email.

We wanted to make sure Home Depot knew the truth about Fox's denial of global warming. So film director Robert Greenwald kicked off this campaign with a 3-minute YouTube video called Fox Attacks: The Environment showing example by example how Fox deceives the public. The video's been viewed by over 400,000 people—it and a Sierra Club petition to Home Depot are below.5

Sierra Club president Carl Pope recently summed up why Home Depot's actions matter: "The most meaningful action companies like Home Depot can take to help the planet is to make sure the public knows the truth about global warming. That means rejecting Fox's pattern of misinformation."6

Home Depot has a history of pulling ads from content they disapprove of. In addition to not supporting Bill O'Reilly, the Associated Press reported last month that Home Depot "did confirm they pulled their ads from BET's Web site to avoid any impression of sponsorship or endorsement of [a controversial] show."7

Seattle lawyer Tom Evans is among the thousands of people who have signed the petition to Home Depot. He explained, "I think picking one Fox advertiser and making them feel the heat is a very sharp strategy. If Home Depot gets the message that they're becoming the poster child for this problem, others will follow suit."8
